The Jewels of Queensland episode of the ISLANDS OF AUSTRALIA series was honoured with a Gold Award by the Queensland Cinematographer's Society.
This episode takes the viewer to many of the myriad magical islands that lay along the north east coastline of the Australian mainland state of Queensland and looks at some of the country’s amazing native, and recently introduced, wildlife. These island jewels form an essential part of one of the largest marine eco-systems in the world, the Great Barrier Reef.

Our cameras visit the Great Barrier Reef where the viewer is taken on an almost magic carpet ride through the Whitsunday Islands, often considered the Greek Islands of the Southern hemisphere, where azure seas provide calm haven to visiting shipping, while the islands themselves offer a unique beauty and extraordinary challenges for those willing to test the limits of their sense of adventure. We also visit Hayman & Hamilton Islands, one of the most exclusive and luxurious locations in the world, where everything from the ground up is a creation of man and money. |
 |
At the centre of the Great Barrier Reef is the small but uniquely important Heron Island named after the large numbers of Herons, or Egrets, that have made the island their home. Not only is Heron Island vital to the lives of the Egrets it plays host to, but it's also an increasingly vital part of world medicine. The island is part of a significant world marine scientific research project and continually contributes valuable data to the world’s medical community, acquired from its studies on marine organisms and their nerves and muscles. |

Yet, one of the loneliest and remote locations in the world has to be One Tree Island a tiny sand and coral cay sitting between the powerful and mighty Pacific Ocean and the Great Barrier Reef. Less than 2 hectares in size One Tree Island is home to a young sun bronzed Australian couple who have made the tiny island their home in the interests of coral reef research, undaunted by the potential ferocity of nature so far from the mainland. |

The TIGER has been introduced to Australia for conservation purposes, and we visit the aptly named Tiger Island where the Tiger Island Project is hoping the relocation of tigers to Australia will help reverse the downward spiral of Bengal Tiger numbers in their homeland on the Indian continent. We become very "up close & personal" with these Bengal Tigers including the rare White Tiger. These huge cats all live together on Tiger Island with only their human handlers for company. |
